Description
The Almshouses, dated 1694, are a range of red brick almshouses located in High Ercall. The building is U-shaped in plan, featuring projecting gabled wings at either end, which have brick parapets. It has a new tile roof and consists of one storey with an attic. The façade is arranged in a 1:4:1 bay pattern, with two and three-light wood mullion and transom casements. The original studded doors are set in heavy doorcases. A central stone doorway is topped with a large stone tablet that bears the inscription and date of 1694. There are brick drip moulds over the attic windows in the gables, five new attic dormers, and brick stacks located at the rear and sides.
