Description

The Shakespeare Inn is a late 19th-century public house located on the east side of Upper Bar. It is constructed of stucco and features two storeys, with the upper storey overhanging at the centre. There are gables on either side, each containing a rectangular oriel window fitted with sashes. The centre of the upper storey has two 2-light sash windows within plain architraves, flanking a gilded bust of Shakespeare set in an oval niche with a shaped surround. The ground storey includes a 4-light sash window, a plain doorway to the left, and continuous sash windows in the side bays, which are divided by slender three-quarter pilasters. The building has plain eaves and is topped with tiles.
