Description
This is an L-shaped barn located approximately 10 meters north-east of The Quaikin in Cockshutt, dating from the mid to late 17th century with later alterations. The barn features a weatherboarded timber frame and a corrugated-iron roof. The south range has two doorways on the left and a square-headed opening on each floor at the right gable end. The shorter range, positioned at right angles to the north, has doorways at both the far left and right, along with a hatch at the gable end.
Inside, the framing is visible in both ranges, consisting of square panels with two extending from the cill to the wall-plate, featuring long straight braces for the weatherboarded bay partitions in the south range and vertical posts in the shorter range. The south range has a single-purlin roof supported by collar- and tie-beam end trusses, with a king strut on the left and queen struts on the first truss from the left, as well as queen posts on the second truss from the left. The shorter range also has a single-purlin roof in two wide bays, with altered collar- and tie-beam trusses and an inserted loft.
