Description
Wolverley Hall is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and a plain tile roof, designed in an H-plan layout that includes a central hall range and two gabled cross-wings. The building is two storeys high, with gable-lit attics in the cross-wings. The framing consists of square and rectangular panels, with four panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, and long straight tension braces in the cross-wings. There are slight jetties at the first floor and attic, with decorative moulding on the attic bressumer of the left gable.
The front of the central range was rebuilt in mid-20th century red brick and is now rendered, featuring a stepped eaves cornice. The windows are arranged in a 1:2:1 pattern, with 19th and 20th century casements topped by 19th century bracketed hoods. A 19th century pilastered doorcase with a flat hood and a six-panel door is located at the angle between the main range and the left gable. The cross-wings have external lateral stacks, with the right stack truncated and the left stack being massive and stepped. There is also a red brick stack in the roof slope at the rear of the hall range.
Inside, the left gable's ground-floor room features a deep-chamfered cross beam and heavy joists, along with a partly infilled inglenook fireplace. There are mid-20th century gabled brick additions at the rear of the left gable, which are not of special architectural interest.
