Description

77 High Street is a house that was later used as a chemist's shop. It dates from the early 18th century and has had additions and alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is made of red brick and has a concrete tiled roof. It stands three storeys tall and features end pilasters and a brick dentil eaves cornice. The entrance front has three bays, with a central doorway that is part of a late 20th-century shop front. The windows on the first and second floors are all early 18th-century glazing bar sashes, with the frames flush against the wall surface. The first-floor windows have segmental heads, while there is a 'dummy' window in the central bay of the second floor. The building has two end brick stacks that project on the left side and are flush with the gable on the right, along with coped verges on kneelers. There are 19th-century additions and alterations at the rear. The facade features a Fire Insurance Plate from the Birmingham District and a gilded pestle and mortar shop sign.
