Description
Christ Church is a parish church built in 1843 by Edward Haycock, with a chancel added in 1886. The church features uncoursed conglomerate rubble for the nave and chancel, with sandstone ashlar dressings and machine tile roofs. It consists of a nave, chancel, west tower, and a south-east vestry.
The tower is thin and unbuttressed, arranged in four stepped stages, with a blocked lancet in the second stage and four lancet openings in the top belfry, topped with a crenellated parapet. The west door is nail-studded and set in a painted arch. The buttressed nave has three bays with broad lancets that feature hoodmoulds on the north side and a moulded eaves cornice. The short one-bay chancel has an east window with paired lancets and a circular opening above, along with a moulded eaves cornice. The lean-to vestry is located on the south side.
Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to have an elaborately trussed roof and a late 19th-century octagonal font with quatrefoil panelling. The parish was established in 1844, formed from parts of Condover and St Julian's, Shrewsbury.
