Description
The Classical Temple, likely built in the late 18th century and attributed to Wyatt, is a circular rotunda located at Badger Dingle. Constructed from sandstone and stuccoed red brick, with a Roman cement dome, it features an open fronted colonnade supported by four Tuscan columns that have square pads at both the top and bottom. The plain frieze supports a moulded entablature, and the dome is ribbed. The temple is accessed by a flight of four shallow steps and is set into the hillside on a rock outcrop. Inside, the back wall retains a stone bench and square holes for a wooden seat above. Additionally, one of the two paths leading to the east is tunnelled through natural rock for about 15 meters, enhancing the approach to the temple.
