Description

A house, originally dating from the 17th century and extended in the 19th century, now divided into two dwellings. The structure is timber-framed with wattle and daub and brick infill, and has been whitewashed. The roof is a combination of asbestos tile and plain tile, with a brick left ridge and a right end stack. The principal facade is single-storey with an attic, featuring a five-window range of two-light casement windows and a central left-hand door (The Cottage). The ground floor has been underbuilt in brick, but the original square-panel framing remains above. Two two-light dormers and a skylight are present. The left bay is a 19th-century addition, with a three-light casement on the end, and a two-light leaded casement above. A small extension is located on the rear of the building. Single-storey extensions are on the right end, with a tall ridge stack. The rear features a door (Malt House Cottage) and smaller casement windows. The timber framing is massive, with close-studded framing below the middle rail and square-panel framing above, all appearing to be of one build. A gable end shows a cambered tie-beam truss and jowled posts, along with old rafter ends. The interior includes a spine beam with run-out stops and heavy joists.
