Description
Aston Pigott Farmhouse and attached barn is a farmhouse and barn dating from the mid-18th century, with later additions and alterations. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick, which is painted on the front, and features a slate roof. It has two storeys and an attic, with floor bands and a three-window front that includes segmental-headed six-paned sash windows. There are gabled eaves dormers with sashes on both the left and right sides. The central entrance has a six-panel door, with the top panels glazed, set beneath a rendered neo-classical porch that was added in 1921. A prominent axial red brick stack is located at the centre, just in front of the ridge.
At the rear, there is a mid-19th century addition made of rubblestone and brick. The attached barn, located at the left gable end, is built of reddish-brown brick and has a plain tile roof with a crowstepped left gable end. Originally a threshing barn, the right bay has been converted for domestic use. The barn has two levels and features a dentilled eaves cornice. The fourth bay from the left has an infilled threshing entrance with eaves hatches and doorways to the front. The right bay contains a 19th-century horizontal sliding sash window directly below the eaves and a six-paned sash window similar to those in the main part of the house on the ground floor. There is a red brick stack in the roof slope, and rows of air vents are present on the rear and left gable end.
While the interior of the house has not been inspected, it is reported to have chamfered ceiling beams and joists, as well as six-panel doors. The barn features a continuous loft and a double-purlin roof spanning six bays, which originally had seven bays, with raking and vertical struts connecting the tie beams to the principal rafters.
