Description

The kitchen garden wall and attached pavilions, along with the terrace retaining wall, were built in 1847 and are located approximately 76 meters northwest of Acton Reynald School. The structure features a red brick wall that is about 70 meters long and 2 meters high, flanked by pavilions made of yellow and grey sandstone ashlar. The wall has a stone coping adorned with various carved ornaments, including shell lunettes, busts, and the Corbet coat of arms above a central gateway, which includes a wrought-iron gate and square piers topped with moulded stone caps and urn finials.

The pavilions consist of three bays, with the center bay being wider. They have octagonal piers with bases and moulded capitals, depressed chamfered arches, a moulded cornice, and a parapet featuring strapwork cresting. The corner piers are also octagonal and have panelled designs with onion-shaped caps. A central shield on the pavilions is dated "ACV/1847". The right-hand pavilion is slightly wider and has a chamfered depressed-arched doorway with a nail-studded boarded door. In front, there are low terrace retaining walls that connect to the main structure, featuring octagonal corner piers with moulded caps and a central flight of steps. Note that sections of the kitchen garden wall to the north of this wall are not included in this listing.
