Description
This former butcher's shop, located adjoining the south of number 21 on King Street in Broseley, dates from the late 19th century or early 20th century. It is a small single-cell shop constructed of brick and faced in glazed tiles, with a concealed roof.
The shop is one storey high and features a doorway on the right with a 20th-century door, and a small shop window on the left, both set under cambered arches. The shop window has a moulded glazed cill. The east front and the left-hand south return are entirely covered in glazed and encaustic tiles, with the top courses being moulded. Above the shop window, the name "M. Davis" is inscribed in mosaics.
Inside, the ceiling is lined with matchboarding, and the walls are fully covered in glazed and moulded tiles, which are believed to have come from the Jackfield Tile Works. The side and rear walls feature moulded tile panels and chequerwork made of brightly coloured tiles. To the left inside the shop window, there is a random selection of patterned tiles, some of which depict sheep heads.
