Description

Nos 40 and 42 on Noble Street are a pair of cottages dating from around the 17th century. They are constructed with a timber frame and have been fronted in red brick, with the eaves raised in the early 19th century. The timber framing is visible at the gable ends. The cottages have a low-pitched roof covered with tarred slate and feature brick dentil eaves. They are two storeys high and have four windows, with two-light casements on the ground floor set in segmental-headed openings. Simple gabled hoods supported by shaped brackets adorn the entrances, with No 40 having a glazed door and No 42 featuring a plank door. There are also 19th-century brick chimney stacks at the ridge.
