Description
This barn, located approximately 15 metres south of Shootrough Farmhouse, dates from the early to mid-17th century, with an addition around 1700 and late 19th-century alterations. It features a weatherboarded timber frame sitting on a high grey sandstone rubble plinth. The gable end to the south has been rebuilt using squared and coursed grey sandstone with brown brick dressings, topped with a plain tile roof. The barn consists of two 17th-century framed bays and a circa 1700 bay to the south, aligned approximately north-east/south-west.
On the north-west front, there are four stone steps leading up to an off-centre boarded door on the left, with a loft door to the right. The right-hand gable end has a segmental-headed boarded door leading to a byre beneath the barn. Inside, the structure features collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts, and the end trusses also include v-struts. The circa 1700 end bay has a raised floor above the byre. This barn is part of a complete farmstead group that includes the farmhouse and cow houses.
