Description

This is an early 18th-century barn situated approximately 15 metres north-east of Lee Hall Farmhouse. It has undergone later additions and alterations. The barn is timber-framed with red brick infill, a plinth, and a graded slate roof. It is of an L-shape, with a short range, likely built around the mid-18th century, projecting to the right.

The farmyard side of the barn shows close-set vertical posts with middle rails to the right of the threshing entrance, and narrow rectangular panels with short straight braces to the left. A king-strut truss is present in the left gable end, with 20th-century red brickwork to the right. The rear elevation has two narrow rectangular panels from sill to wall-plate to the right, and three square panels with long and short straight tension braces to the left. There is a threshing entrance in the second bay from the left on the farmyard side, with a corresponding entrance at the rear. Scattered openings are visible to the right, including a stable door in the ground floor of the 18th-century brick projection and a window above.

The interior features straight tension braces in the bay partitions. The roof is a staggered single-purlin structure with straight wind braces, and a mixture of queen-strut and king-strut trusses, along with raking struts from the tie beams to the principal rafters; the second truss from the left has curved principals. A continuous loft is present throughout the barn, except in the threshing bay, which has a slate floor. The barn is included on the list for its group value. Lee Hall Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
