Description
This is a chest tomb dedicated to Elizabeth Mason, located 5 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St James. It dates from the late 18th century and was crafted by Thomas Colley of Stoke Prior. The tomb is made of sandstone ashlar and features a flat plain lid with moulded edges. The south side has inscribed panels with a raised border and a central circular incised panel, adorned with raised carved motifs such as a skull, crown, ribbons, a vase, and crossed bones. The north panel also has a raised border and raised festoons. The ends of the tomb are plain, and it has shaped inset corner pilasters. It rests on a moulded chamfered bed atop a plain plinth. This memorial commemorates Elizabeth, the wife of Edward Mason, who died in 1796.
