Description
This is a pair of raised slab tombs located next to the east wall of the chancel of the Church of St James, dating from the mid to late 18th century. They are made of ashlar sandstone slabs set on brick plinths. The southern tomb features a plain lid with a moulded edge and commemorates Reverend William Smith, who died in 1797. The northern tomb has a lid adorned with incised ornament at the corners and a plain edge, commemorating Elizabeth, the wife of Thomas Smith, who died in 1769, and Thomas Smith himself, who died in 1775.
