Description
The ice house, located approximately 120 metres northwest of Buntingsdale Hall, dates from around 1721 and may have been enlarged around 1857. It is constructed of red brick and features two separate chambers. The first chamber is square with a brick barrel vault and an oculus, while the second chamber is circular, tapering, and has a domed brick vault. Access to the ice house is via a short segmental-arched brick passage that leads to the first chamber, with an additional short passage connecting to the second chamber. As of April 1986, the ice house had been partially exposed on the west side due to the removal of earth. It was built to supply ice for Buntingsdale Hall and is particularly notable for its size.
