Description

Longford Old Hall is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed with painted brick infill and has a painted brick underbuilding. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The framing features small square panels, previously four from the sole plate to the wall plate, with short straight corner braces. The building has an H-plan layout, consisting of one framed bay with cross wings that contain two framed bays. It is two storeys high with an attic.

The exterior includes large brick end stacks with pitched-roofed links to the attic. The left stack has recessed lozenge panels and two square shafts set diagonally, while the right stack features three square shafts, also set diagonally. There is a brick ridge stack located off-centre to the right. A central timber-framed gabled full dormer contains a two-light diamond-leaded wooden casement. The front has a 1-:1-:1 window arrangement, with 20th-century three-light diamond-leaded wooden casements. An off-centre 20th-century carved wooden door, located in the angle of the cross wing, has a chamfered surround. At the rear, there is a one-storey lean-to.

Inside, the building has timber-framed cross walls and chamfered ceiling beams with ogee stops. The staircase, dating from the 18th century, features an open string, cut brackets, turned balusters, a turned foot newel, and a moulded handrail. The left-hand ground-floor room has a dressed sandstone fireplace with a cyma-recta moulding, while the right-hand room contains a fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel. Early 18th-century doors with six raised and fielded panels are also present.
