Description
This is a chest tomb located 2 metres south of the porch of the Church of St James, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is made of sandstone ashlar and features a saddleback lid with a moulded edge. The side panels are plain and inscribed, set within segmental-arched openings that have toothed and roll-moulded decorative carvings. The tomb has inset corner pillars topped with scroll capitals and supported by roll-moulded bases. Below, there is a plain chamfered plinth under a roll-moulded bed. The tomb commemorates Richard Mason, son of Edward and Elizabeth Mason, who died in 1822, and his wife Eleanor, who died in 1850. It is included for its group value.
