Description
This dovecote, built around 1734, is located approximately 25 metres southwest of Dinthill Hall. It is constructed of red brick and features a pyramidal slate roof with an octagonal plan and two storeys. The building has a dentil brick eaves cornice and a central wooden glover that includes a round-arched arcade with moulded architraves, imposts, and keystones, topped with a moulded cornice and an ogee lead cap with a weathervane. There are segmental-headed loft openings on the east and south-west sides, with the south-west opening having been widened in the late 20th century. A segmental-headed boarded door is located on the north side. Inside, there are brick nesting boxes and a chamfered ceiling beam, although the loft was not inspected. Historical references indicate a weathervane dated 1870, suggesting that the glover may have been renewed around that time. The dovecote is part of a group of farm buildings associated with Dinthill Hall, which also includes a barn and stables.
