Description
This chest tomb, dating from around 1800, is located approximately thirteen metres northwest of the tower of the Church of Saint Swithun in Cheswardine. It is constructed from red sandstone ashlar and features an oval plan. The tomb is adorned with reeded pilaster strips, incised panels, and a moulded cornice on its octagonal top. Atop the tomb is an oval-shaped flaming urn finial, which has a moulded base and a reeded bowl decorated with swags over paterae and winged angels. The inscription on the tomb was illegible during the survey conducted in March 1986.
