Description
The Swan Inn Public House is a late 16th century or 17th century building with later alterations. It features painted stone rubble, brick, and render, along with a painted timber frame and painted infill panels. The roofs are plain-tiled and have plain 19th century bargeboards and finials. There are projecting stone and brick eaves stacks with brick upper shafts, as well as two integral brick stacks. The building has an irregular and roughly L-shaped plan with extension wings.
The exterior consists of two storeys, a single storey, an attic, and a basement. On the east side, there is a projecting stone gable-end with multi-pane casements on each storey. A stone stack with a small dormer is located on the south return. To the right is the framed gable-end of a smaller extension, which has full-height close studding and a jettied first-floor gable-truss featuring a straight tie beam with two vertical struts. The entrance door is situated under a lean-to roof between the gables.
On the right (north) side, there is a central gable-end with a framed gable truss supported by vertical struts and a collar with twin raking struts. This side also has a two-light casement, with a rendered wall below that contains leaded casements. The right return side features square framing that is two panels high, while the left side shows the wall of the smaller extension with a two-light casement, which is covered below by a lean-to outshut that also has a two-light casement. To the far left is the side wall of the main wing, which contains a multi-pane casement.
Inside, the building has square-panelled timber-framed partitions and stop-chamfered bridging beams.
