Description

Arbour Cottages is a pair of houses that have been combined into a single dwelling, dated 1632. The structure features a painted timber frame set on a stone rubble plinth, with painted brick and render infill panels, and a stone rubble gable end. It has a graduated slate roof and two rear chimneys: one is a projecting stone rubble eaves stack with tiled offsets and a 19th-century brick shaft, while the other is an integral stone stack also with a 19th-century brick shaft.

The exterior consists of two storeys and a single storey with an attic. The front displays square framing with three panels high on the left and four panels high on the right. A central gabled wing projects, featuring the date in the gable and 20th-century wood casements on each storey. To the left, there is a plain doorway beneath an open porch with a slate pentice roof. A single gabled dormer with a two-light casement is positioned above a two-light ground-storey casement. On the right side, there are two 20th-century casements on both storeys and a partly glazed door.

The right-hand gable-end truss showcases square framing four panels high, with a pair of straight tension braces, a straight tie beam, vertical struts, and a collar with twin raking struts. The left gable-end is made of stone rubble. At the rear, square framing is partly obscured by a projecting stack and lean-to extensions, which include 20th-century casements.

Inside, the ground-floor rooms feature exposed ceiling beams, and the roof has a twin trenched-purlin construction.
