Description
Rowton Grange is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century. It is timber-framed and partly rendered, with plain-tile roofs and a brick ridge stack. The building has an H-plan layout, with the hall range aligned east-west and facing south, featuring a crosswing at each end. It stands two storeys high and has irregular fenestration with casement windows. The exposed close studded timbers are visible just below the eaves of the hall range.
On the rear, the left-hand (east) wing displays exposed timber framing, consisting of four square panels at the eaves and straight braces. The roof truss features a collar and tie-beam with v-struts above the collar and three vertical studs below. The hall range and the right-hand (west) wing have irregularly placed casements. A detailed inspection of the building was not possible during the resurvey conducted in September 1986.
