Description
Llanyblodwel Bridge is a bridge dated 1710, with repairs made in 1886. It is constructed from regularly coursed and dressed sandstone blocks. The bridge features a central four-centred arch, which is flanked by triangular cutwaters that extend upwards to create pedestrian refuges. There are lower segmental arches at each end, and all arches include dripstones. The low parapet is topped with cast-iron railings, likely installed in 1888. The abutments are made of uncoursed rubble. A cast-iron plaque on the north approach (east side) states: "LLANYBLODWEL BRIDGE / THIS BRIDGE WAS TAKEN OVER BY THE / COUNTY COUNCIL OF SALOP IN 1899." The bridge spans the River Tanat and forms a picturesque group with the Horse Shoe Inn and The Cottage. It is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County No. 229.
