Description
The former stable block, now used as a cow house, is located approximately 15 meters southwest of Benthall Farmhouse and dates from around 1660. It is constructed of red brick set on a high, roughly squared and coursed red sandstone ashlar plinth, topped with a hipped slate roof. The building is one storey with a loft and features a chamfered plinth, a dentil brick string course at the rear, and a projecting eaves cornice.
On the west front, there are two boarded loft doors and four segmental-headed boarded stable doors, with two in the center that have blocked overlights. The left-hand end wall has mostly been rebuilt in 20th-century brick, possibly replacing external steps to the loft, as indicated by the joints of a probable first-floor door to the right. Inside, the stable block has chamfered ceiling beams with ogee stops and timber-framed square-panelled cross-walls. It is connected to Benthall Farmhouse by a stretch of garden wall.
