Description
This barn, dating from the early 17th century, is located approximately 30 metres to the north-east of Lower Day House. It features a timber frame set on a roughly squared and coursed sandstone plinth. The north-east side is weatherboarded, while the north-west side has brick nogging with a weatherboarded gable, and the south-west side is finished with plastered infill. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The structure consists of three framed bays, with square panels extending from the sole-plate to the wall-plate, supported by long straight tension braces. There is a small boarded door on the south-west side, along with a doorway and scattered openings on the north-east side. Inside, the barn has cross-frames with short corner braces, straight tension braces, and tie-beam end trusses featuring queen struts. The roof structure includes single purlins with wind braces. Lower Day House is not included in this listing.
