Description
The Church of Holy Trinity is a parish church built in 1843 by Edward Haycock. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a machine tile roof with coped verges and a plain corbel table. The church includes a nave with a west bellcote, a chancel, a south porch, and a north vestry, all designed in a lancet style. The nave is buttressed in five bays and has broad lancet windows with hoodmoulds and a continuous moulded cill band. The gabled porch is located in the second bay from the west on the south side, and the gabled bellcote, which has twin pointed bell openings, is situated above a three-light west window. The short one-bay chancel features a broad lancet window with a hoodmould on the south side, and the east window is similar to the west window of the nave but also includes hoodmoulds.
Inside, the church has a multi-strutted collar and tie beam roof, similar to that found in the Church of Holy Trinity in Middleton, Chirbury. The interior is otherwise very plain, with the main feature of interest being a west gallery supported by two cast-iron columns and a plain pointed chancel arch. Most of the fittings and furnishings, including the stained glass in the east window from 1867, date from the late 19th century. The church is set in a picturesque churchyard and is accessed by a small wooden bridge over a stream to the south.
