Description
The churchyard wall and lych gate to the Church of St Mary are likely from the 18th century, although they incorporate earlier materials. The wall is made of roughly coursed gritstone and conglomerate rubble, topped with triangular-shaped coping. It forms a steeply banked, roughly oval-shaped enclosure, indicating an early origin for the churchyard. An incised Celtic cross-head is built into the wall on the south side. The lych gate, dated 1892 in memory of Emily, Lady Harlech, features a timber-framed gabled structure set on low stone walls, with a machine tile roof and cusped bargeboards. It is located at the south-east entrance to the churchyard. The extension of the churchyard to the north-east is not included in this listing. This site is noted for its group value.
