Description

Number 16 and The Crown and Raven Public House is a building from the mid-18th century, with its core dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed of red brick and stands three storeys high with attics. The second storey features three Venetian windows, while the floors above and below have four sash windows set in plain reveals. The building has dentilled modillion eaves and three hipped dormers, topped with tiles.

The ground floor of the wings has undergone modern alterations. Inside, there is a staircase hall located immediately behind the front rooms, showcasing an exposed ceiling from the 16th or 17th century. The front first floor room, which is now divided into two, contains two two-tier wooden chimney pieces and a central door with a pediment, which was formerly the Assembly Room. The room at the rear of the front right first floor features a 17th-century plaster ceiling with part of a frieze, adorned with strapwork ornament in panels framed by beams.

To the right, there is a three-storey extension made of brown brick, which has a modern bar front on the ground floor. The first floor is deeply recessed and features a large projecting brick bow with a sash window that nearly reaches the outer wall. The floor above, supported by a bressummer, has two sash windows with moulded lintels, a moulded eaves cornice, and an old hipped tile roof.
