Description
The moat retaining wall and bridge, located approximately 10 metres south of Albright Hussey, are likely from the 15th or 16th century. The retaining wall is made of dressed grey sandstone and measures about 60 metres long, with a return to the north for a short distance at the east end. The bridge, also constructed of dressed grey sandstone, features a small round arch and chamfered coping. The parapet of the bridge has likely been rebuilt at a later date. It is clear that the retaining wall and bridge were constructed at different times, as indicated by the straight joints. Albright Hussey was probably surrounded by a moat on all four sides, and the remaining sections to the south and southeast, which include the retaining wall and bridge, are still partially filled with water.
