Description
The building is a stable located about 50 yards south-west of The Priory, dating from the 18th century or earlier. It is constructed from a mix of sandstone rubble and timber framing, with a weatherboarded exterior and a machine-tiled roof. The stable consists of five bays arranged in a north/south direction and has two levels. The timber framing features one row of rectangular panels at the upper floor level, supported by long straight braces at the lower corners. The roof structure includes a collar and tie-beam truss with five struts to the collar and V-struts in the apex at the north gable end.
On the main east elevation, the window openings are fitted with timber lintels. There are four square windows and a small rectangular window on the ground floor, along with two loft openings and a doorway that has a ledged and battened door. The second bay from the south end has a large double doorway on the west side, indicating that the building may have also been used as a barn. Inside, the roof features intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses and two tiers of trenched purlins.
