Description
This building complex consists of a barn, cow house, stable, and pig sties, located about 25 yards north-west of Wern Farmhouse. It dates from the late 17th century to the mid-18th century and is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof. The layout follows a local type plan, featuring a barn with a cow house and stable at either end, and lower pig sties added to the left of the cow house. The structure has six roof bays, with one vent-slit on either side of the full-height doors in the second bay from the left. To the right, there are two ledged doors leading to the cow house, followed by a stable door with a loft door in the right gable end. Attached to the left gable end are three pig sties, which include two ledged doors to the left of center and one on the right side. Inside, the barn, cow house, and stable feature raking struts and collars with very pronounced cambers, while the half struts in the pig sties are pegged. This complex forms an unusually complete ensemble, with even the pig sties retaining their stone slate roof.
