Description

Ebenezer Congregational Church and Library, located on Tipton's Lane in Leintwardine, was built in 1869 and 1881, as indicated by plaques on the building. It features sandstone rubble construction with sandstone and polychromatic brick dressings, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The church is a three-bay structure with a polygonal west end, oriented east to west, and a former schoolroom attached at a right angle to the east end.

On the south elevation, the church section on the left has three lancet windows with cast iron glazing bars, above which are moulded brick labels. The jambs and quoins are made of blue and brown brick, and there is a cogged brick string course beneath the lancets, along with a cogged brick eaves cornice. The east end of the roof features a bell-cot with trefoil-headed openings on each side, moulded imposts, and a cornice adorned with acroteria. A small sandstone spire with a weathervane sits atop the structure. The angle of the western end displays a decorative black and white tile string at the impost level.

Access to the church is through a recess on the right side, which has a two-centred arch and two-leaved ledged doors. The former schoolroom to the right has a gable front with three stepped lancets. Entry to the left return is via a moulded two-centred arch with two-leaved doors beneath the gable. A short wall links the two parts and features a ledged door under a two-centred head. Inside the church, there are pine pews and a readers desk located on a dais at the west end.
