Description
Hillend Cottages is a farmhouse that has been converted into three cottages. It dates from the early 17th century and was extended in the mid to late 17th century. The left part features close-studded timber framing, while the right has larger panels with red brick infill. The building has a stone slate roof at the front, which is hipped on the right, and plain tiles at the rear. It is arranged in an L-shape with a rear wing on the right and stands two storeys high with garrets.
The front has three windows: a three-light window to the left of the porch, a six-light window to the right, and a 20th-century bay window at the far right. All windows are leaded cross windows, and the first floor has similar fenestration. There is a slight moulded and bracketed jetty on the first floor, along with a former roof plate on the left part. The off-centre porch is two storeys tall and has a hipped roof, featuring a coarsely carved lintel above the outer doorway, a moulded jetty, flanking pendants, and a balustraded screen to the side, with a three-light casement window above. The interior retains 17th-century roof trusses with curved principal rafters.
