Description

A row of houses, now shops and offices, located on Bridge Street, Hereford. Numbers 25 and 26 date from the early 19th century, while numbers 27, 28 and 29 were built in the late 18th century.

Numbers 25 and 26 are constructed of painted brick with a slate roof and brick end stacks. Numbers 27, 28 and 29 are of brick with a slate roof and brick end stacks. Numbers 25 and 26 have three storeys and a cellar, with a two-window front. They feature 8/8 and 4/4 sash windows with stone sills under brick segmental arches, accompanied by brick modillion eaves. Modern shop fronts now occupy the ground floor. Numbers 27, 28 and 29 also have three storeys and a cellar and a two-window front, with 6/6 and 4/4 sash windows under gauged brick segmental arches and brick modillion eaves. Number 27 has a 6-panel door with an overlight in a grooved case under a flat hood (missing from number 28).

The interior of number 25 features a 19th-century dogleg staircase with stick balusters, a moulded rail, and a dado rail. The second floor has 4-panel doors with architraves, while the first floor has 4-panel doors and an overlight. A partly stone-lined cellar is also present. Number 27 contains a 19th-century dogleg and winder staircase with stick balusters and a swan neck rail. The second floor has 2-panel doors, and the first floor has a 4-panel door, a 19th-century cast-iron fireplace, an overlight with glazing bars, and architraves. The ground floor has two glazed panelled doors an overlight with glazing bars, a wall cupboard, and a stone-lined cellar with a cobbled floor, a 19th-century timber-framed partition wall. Number 28 has a 19th-century dogleg staircase with stick balusters and turned newels. The second floor has 2-panel doors, and a 19th-century fireplace. The first floor has 2-panel doors with architraves and a 19th-century fireplace. The ground floor has a 2-panel door, a corner cupboard and a 6-panel door. Number 29 includes a 19th-century dogleg staircase with stick balusters and turned newels. The second floor has three 6-panel doors, the first floor has 6-panel doors with architraves and a coloured margin-glazed and panelled door, and the cellar is stone-lined.
