Description
Mapleton is a 17th-century house with a timber-frame structure, finished with roughcast on the front and topped with a continuous tiled hipped roof. The building has an 'L' plan and features a large external chimney at the rear. It stands two storeys high, with five bays in the main range and two bays in the right end wing, while the left bay is an addition. The entrance is located at the junction of the two parts of the 'L', accessed through a 20th-century glazed porch. The windows are primarily 20th-century top vents, with a 19th-century sash window in the front ground floor room of the projecting wing. Inside, there are very heavy purlins, a raised roof, and a diagonal hip beam in the right front upper room. This house was formerly known as the Sly House.
