Description
This pair of headstones, located 10 metres south of the chancel at the Church of St. Peter, dates from 1715 and 1717 and is made of slate. The headstone on the left features a square top with an incised angel and an hourglass to the left, along with the incised date "1715" and four lines of verse dedicated to John Mitchell, senior, and his wife. The headstone on the right also has a square top, two incised angels, and the text "Come Ye Blessed." It includes a panel with raised lettering that reads, "Here lies the Bodys of John and Bennett sons of John and Eliz. Mitchell. John died Oct. 6th 1715. Bennett died Mar. 14th 1720," along with four lines of verse and a quotation below.
