Description
The lychgate to the churchyard of the Church of St. Edmund, built in 1921, is constructed from rock-face ashlar, wood, and some iron. It features a pair of rock-face ashlar walls that are positioned at right angles to a central double gate made of wood and iron. The walls are topped with an open wooden framework that supports a gabled slate roof, complete with pendants and sprocketed eaves. At each angle, both at the front and rear, there are single carved grotesque heads. This lychgate serves as a memorial for those who died in the 1914-18 War and expresses gratitude for those who returned.
