Description
A group of seven headstones, dating from 1710 to 1748, is located 10 meters west of the west end of the nave at the Church of St. John of Beverley. These headstones are made of Leicestershire slate and commemorate the Carpendale family. They are arranged in a line. The five headstones on the left have square heads featuring incised angels and verses dedicated to John (Junior) from 1725, John (Senior) from 1721, Mary from 1710, Thomas from 1718, and Anne from 1719. To the right is a square-headed stone with a beaded border, a cartouche, and a verse dedicated to Ann from 1737, which is signed "J. Sparrow Sculp." Further to the right is a larger stone with a coved border dedicated to Thomas from 1748.
