Description
The shelter at Aslockton Railway Station is a late 19th-century railway platform shelter built for the Great Northern Railway. It is a small, single-storey structure with a rectangular plan, featuring a timber frame and timber cladding topped with a Welsh slate roof. The front has five bays, each with a three-light window that includes a narrow mullion and central transom, with the heads of the lights shaped by triangles at the tops of the mullions. The right end bay has only two lights, with the left one serving as the doorway. The base has vertical boarding with an expressed frame, while the sides and likely the rear wall are finished with diagonal boarding. The roof is hipped and adorned with spiked finials, while the side and rear walls are plain. Inside, the shelter has a simple finish with horizontal boarding, a vertically boarded dado, and a vertically boarded rear wall. This structure appears to have been built using standard components from Midland Railway signal boxes that were in use from around 1880 to 1905. Although the station was established by the Great Northern Railway in the 1860s and remained under its ownership until 1923, it is possible that the shelter was relocated to this site after that date, despite its construction dating from the indicated period.
