Description

Highfields is a dower house, now a private residence, built in 1729 for Sir Thomas Parkyns of Bunny Hall. The building features a mix of red brick stretchers with blue brick headers, some yellow brick, and rubble with ashlar dressings. It has a concrete pantile bell canted mansard roof from the early 20th century. The house has two lateral and one single ridge red brick stacks, with clasping buttresses at each corner. The front and south buttresses are set on a rubble and chamfered ashlar plinth, which has two stages and a moulded ashlar band with chamfered quoins below and panelled above, forming pilasters with moulded capitals. The rear buttresses do not have quoins.

The south front is two storeys high with three bays, featuring a single early 20th-century tripartite cross casement. To the left, there is a two-bay lean-to with large openings, and above are two similar casements flanking a smaller central casement, all under segmental arches. The left or west front has five bays, with three similar casements, a doorway to the right, and another similar casement further right. Above are five smaller casements, all under segmental arches. The right or east front has round-arched blocked or partially blocked window openings with ashlar keystones, now fitted with early 20th-century casements. The rear features two round-arched part-blocked openings with ashlar keystones and imposts on the first floor, also now with early 20th-century casements. Under the eaves, in blue brick, is the inscription "Sir T. Parkyns A.D. 1729". Highfields served as the dower house to Bunny Hall.
