Description

A group of headstones located approximately 4 metres west of the tower in the churchyard of the Church of St Luke, mainly dating from the early to mid 18th century, are made of slate.

  1. One double stone commemorates Stephen and Ann Mann, both of whom died in 1752.
  2. A plain headstone marks the grave of Mary Rasdal, who died in 1762.
  3. Another headstone is dedicated to John Mann, who died in 1789.
  4. A fairly ornate stone commemorates William Mann, who died in 1759.

Facing east, there are four smaller stones:

  1. One features a round-faced winged angel and is dedicated to Mary, daughter of Stephen and Ann Mann, who died on April 20th, 1735, at the age of 15. This is a good example of its type.
  2. Another stone, with a round-faced winged angel and raised letters, is for Anne, child of George Mann and Mary his wife, who died in 1735 at half a year old. This is an excellent example of its type.
  3. A small stone with chamfered corners and a round-faced winged angel commemorates William, son of William Mann Senior and Mary his wife, who died on August 30th, 1742.
  4. The smallest stone, made of limestone, is inscribed with "the body of John Mann son of Stephen and Elizabeth Mann departed October 27 1698."
