Description
Burgess House and Burgess Cottage is a house and attached cottage dating from the late 18th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick and feature a hipped slate roof with two lateral and one single ridge red brick stacks. They are set on a plinth and consist of a two-storey, three-bay house and a two-and-a-half-storey, two-bay cottage. The central bay of the house slightly projects forward.
The house has a painted band at the first floor level and a central doorway that is accessed by three steps. This doorway features a part-glazed and panelled door, a decorative overlight, and a painted moulded surround with two reeded brackets that support a pediment. On either side of the doorway are single glazing bar sash windows, and above are three similar sash windows.
To the left and slightly set back is the cottage, which has its own doorway with a six fielded panel door, a flush wedge lintel, and a keystone. To the left of this doorway is a single glazing bar sash window, with a similar sash window above it and a smaller sash window on the top floor. All sash windows have painted flush wedge lintels and keystones.
