Description
The wall and gate at Burgess House and Burgess Cottage date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from red brick, ashlar, and iron. The red brick wall stands one and a half metres high and stretches for 22 metres in front of both Burgess House and Cottage. The wall rises at both ends to form piers and also rises in the centre to create single gate piers, which have ashlar hinge and lock blocks on either side of a decorative ogee arched iron gate. The coping on the piers is topped with single ashlar orbs. A similar higher wall extends from the outer angles, connecting to the house on the right side and ending one metre before the cottage on the left side. This structure is included for its group value context.
