Description

Poplar Farmhouse and adjoining stables is a farmhouse built in the mid-18th century and 19th century, with the stables dating from the mid-19th century. The structure is made of coursed and squared rubble and brick, with parts pebbledashed and tile-hung, topped with plain tile roofs. It features two gable stacks and a single side wall stack. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has two bays, with a single range and a catslide roof at the rear.

The windows are timber mullioned and plain casements. The east front has an off-centre door with a tiled hood, flanked by single casements that have keystoned splayed lintels. Above this, there are two casements. The north gable features a casement, with another casement above to the right that has a segmental head. The south gable has a casement in a splayed reveal, with another casement above to the left. The rear includes a single-storey wash-house to the left with a gable stack, a casement, and a door in the return angle. To its right are a casement, a door, and three sashes, all with segmental heads. Above, to the right, there is a tile-hung gabled dormer with two sashes.

The stables are arranged in an L-plan and have openings with segmental heads. On the west side, there are two casements to the left, with a single door to the left and two doors to the right. To the right again is a stable with a casement, followed by two partly slatted casements flanked by single doors. Further right is another stable with a door flanked by single slatted casements. The north side features a square stable with a door to the left, and to the right is a lower stable with a door flanked by two casements. Beyond this is another door, followed by a round-headed doorway.
