Description
The Infant School, built in 1878, is constructed of red brick with ashlar and yellow terracotta dressings. It features slate roofs adorned with ornate ridge tiles and finials, along with a single tall red brick gable stack. The building has a chamfered brick plinth and a chamfered eaves cornice, with 'egg and dart' moulded gable eaves.
The east street front displays a central segment-headed cross casement, flanked by two taller segment-headed cross casements that slightly project and rise into pedimented gables. Each gable is detailed with moulded terracotta impost blocks and moulded lintels, above terracotta bands inscribed with the words "INFANT" and "SCHOOL." Small circular windows with terracotta surrounds and four keystones are present in the gables.
On the south front, there is a single gable with bipartite cross-casements; the central section is taller and features a segment head, along with another circular window above, which also has a terracotta surround and keystones. The west playground front includes a tall segment-headed cross-casement that rises into a pedimented gable, complete with moulded terracotta impost blocks and a moulded lintel, above a terracotta band and another small circular window in the gable.
