Description

Marnham Hall is an early 18th-century house constructed of red brick, featuring a hipped pantile roof with two large red brick chimney stacks and dentil eaves. The building is set on a plinth and has a first-floor band that projects over the windows. It stands two storeys tall, plus an attic and basement, and has five bays. The central doorway is approached by four steps and features a six-fielded panel door with a traceried fanlight, all within a wide rusticated brick surround. Flanking the doorway are two glazing bar sash windows, with five similar sashes above, all having flush wedge lintels. In the attic, there are two hipped dormers, each containing a single 20th-century glazing bar casement. The right basement includes a single stone mullion window. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing dating from around 1800. The interior boasts barrel-vaulted cellars and a staircase adorned with late 16th-century balusters, which are reputedly from the former Hall. Marnham Hall was the home of the Cartwright family.
