Description
The Old Priest's House is a house that was formerly a priest's residence, dating from the 17th century with alterations from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a thatched roof with a steep tile-coped gable and kneelers, along with one gable and two ridge stacks. The building has an irregular five-bay front that is primarily a single long range, but includes a single-storey kitchen at one end and a single-storey outshut.
The front has off-centre 20th-century double French doors, with a glazing bar sash window to the left and a glazing bar casement to the right. In the outshut, there is a glazing bar sash and a four-light casement, along with a half-glazed door leading to the kitchen. On the first floor, there are three glazing bar sashes, a Yorkshire glazing bar sash, and three small glazing bar casements. The two upper windows on the right side of the front are dormers, with the thatch sweeping up over them.
Inside the kitchen, there are two bays of a 17th-century softwood ceiling with moulded girders. The main house roof, also from the 17th century, features trapped purlin construction with a ridgepiece. On the first floor, extensive oak timbers of probable early 17th-century character are exposed, with one timber bearing an unreliable date of 1311.
