Description

Nos. 86 and 87 Westgate are a symmetrical pair of buildings from the early 19th century or earlier. They are constructed of brick and stand two storeys high. The front features seven flush sash windows with glazing bars, although the central window is blind. On either side of the central arched through-passage, which has a mid-20th century door, there are later Victorian shopfronts that have seen very little alteration. These shopfronts include moulded glazing bars and a corniced fascia that ends in gablets topped with balls, supported by double brackets over pilasters. The buildings have a slate roof, a wooden eaves cornice, and quoins.

Nos. 42 to 56 (consecutive), Nos. 77, 78, and Nos. 80 to 84 (consecutive), along with Nos. 86 and 87, form a group.
